Dr. David Roberson

Dr. David Francis Roberson, 71, died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2010 at his home surrounded by loved ones.

He was born Sept. 22, 1938 in Alton to Dr. W.V. and Margaret (Pearson) Roberson.

He married the former Jackie Niepert June 13, 1975 in Las Vegas, Nev. She survives.

Dr. Roberson was raised in Wood River and practiced dentistry in the town for 45 years. He graduated from Roxana High School in 1956. He received his bachelor's degree in Zoology from SIU Carbondale and graduated from the St. Louis University School of Dental Medicine in 1964. He was a member of the Academy of General Dentistry and passed both the Illinois and Missouri dental board exams.

He was a member of the American Dental Assoc., Illinois State Dental Soc., past president of Madison District Dental Soc., past president of Wood River Township Hospital dental staff, American Society for Preventative Dentistry, American Society for Geriatric Dentistry, American Society of Dentistry for Children, Olympic National Dental Network, PSI Omega dental fraternity, and Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, SIUC.

Dr. Roberson was a life member of the National Rifle Association, the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society and the North American Fishing Club, where he was the proud holder of more than 20 Ontario catch and release awards.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Raelene Roberson of Edwardsville; four daughters and a son-in-law, Julie and Chris Bailey of Edwardsville, Carrington Roberson of Godfrey, Courtney Stevens of Rosewood Heights, and Jeryn Roberson of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. G.T. and Chaille Roberson; and a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Ricky Templeton; seven grandchildren, Emily, Raechel and Jacoby Roberson of Edwardsville, Kuper and Kael Stevens of Rosewood Heights, and Nickolas Bailey of Edwardsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Ryan Roberson; and a brother, Dr. W.V. Roberson, Jr.

In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held.

Memorials may be made to the United Presbyterian Church of Wood River or BJC Hospice.
