Edwin "Gene" Gross, 81, died at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Saint Anthony's Health Center in Alton.

He was born April 4, 1928 in Wood River, IL to William "Bill" and Mary B. (Gass) Gross.

On February 6, 1955 in Burden, KS he married the former Mary A. Mowder. He retired in 1992 from McDonnell Douglas as a Senior Scheduler. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and was a longtime member of Cherry Street Baptist Church in Alton. He currently was a member of First Baptist Church of Godfrey. He worked part time for many years at Central Hardware in Alton.

Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter; Katherine Dixon and her husband Thomas of South Roxana. One son; Gerry Gross of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, four grandchildren; Mindy and Jeremy Cox of Jerseyville, Jamie Hartley and her boyfriend Ryan Breden of Jerseyville, Christie Crosno of Wood River and David Kelley of Greenfield, six great grandchildren; Corey and Joey Cox, Domonic Hartley, Taylor and Lillian Breden and Damien Crosno.

He was preceded in death by two brothers; Howard and Alfred Gross and Two sisters; Marie Humlicek and Betty Booher.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 28, 2010 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Godfrey.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Godfrey with Reverends Steve Rice and Paul Militzer to officiate.

Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Godfrey.
