Richard Cox

Richard T. Cox Jr., 83, passed away at 6:35 pm on Friday, February 12, 2010, at his residence.

He was born April 21, 1926 in Glendale PA, the son of Richard T. & Annie (Kiener) Cox Sr.

He married Betty (Wenzel) on January 5, 1985 in Wood River.

Richard served his country in the United States Army, where he served for 26 years retiring in March 31, 1971 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. He was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Alton and a former member of the Edwardsville American Legion Post #199. He enjoyed golfing and watching sports and spending time with family, friends and especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and his spouse, Richard T. & Gayle Cox III of Holiday Shores, two step son's Donald & his wife Donna Gottlob of Bethalto and Terry Gottlob of Alton; four grandchildren, Richard James Cox, Julianne, Ashlee and Mackenzie Gottlob and one sister and brother-in-law, Crystabal & Jack White of PA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one step daughter, Julianne Gottlob and three sisters, Mildred Zinsmeister, Patricia Willetts and Gladys Bingham.

Memorial funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Alton, IL, with Fr. David Boase officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Godfrey, with the Alton VFW Post 1308.

Memorials may be made to BJC Hospice.

Elias Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto will be in charge of arrangements.
