Ingrid V. Papes, 75, died at 9:50 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born September 30, 1934 in Konigsburg, Germany, she was the daughter of Fritz and Johanna (Schulz) Schmeer.
She was on a Junior Olympic swim team in Germany. On April 10, 1954 in Vandalia, IL, she married Eugene L. Papes. He preceded her in death on August 2, 2008. She worked as an LPN Nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Alton for several years. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother and loved golfing and dancing.
Surviving is a daughter, Lisa Maag and her husband Gregory of Alton, a son, John Papes and his wife Deborah of Castle Rock, Colorado, two grandchildren; Madelyne Maag and Matthew Maag, and a brother, Gerhard Schmeer and his wife Else of Germany.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.
A mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton.
Burial will be at 1:15 p.m. Friday at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, IL.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
