Richard W. Stelzer, 64, passed away unexpectedly at 8:37 pm, Friday, February 12, 2010 at his home.
He was born on July 29, 1945 in East St. Louis, IL, the son of William J. and Bernice D. (Nowak) Stelzer.
He married Velma L. Hand on April 29, 2000 in Granite City, IL. She survives.
He worked at ADT Security for 35 years, retiring in July 2005. He loved to play on the computer, sports, especially football, bowling and most of all spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Rich Stelzer & Alicia Eaker, Brian & Barb Stelzer all of Bethalto and Angie & Brian Diveley of St. Jacob, IL; 4 stepchildren and their spouses, Lynnette & Judd Govero of Cottage Hills, Christel Paustian of Grand Island, NE, Jim & Cathy Williams of Bethalto and Angela Williams of Cottage Hills; 17 grandchildren, Judd, Sara, James, Dylan, Kasie, Amanda, Jake, Jordan, Haley, Kristin, Bree, Paige, Brian, Ally, Emily, Molly and Jared; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rose Ann & Don Bates of Colorado and Dee Dee Stoyanoff of Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
