Betty Schmidt, 89, passed away at 6:30 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2010 at St. Anthony's Hospital.
Born Jan. 29, 1921 in Herrin, Ill., she was the daughter of Quincy and Alma (Clark) Mabry.
She married Edward E. Schmidt June 25, 1961 in East Alton, and together they shared almost 49 years of marriage until her passing.
A machine operator for Olin Corp., she retired in 1970 after 25 years. She was active in the First Baptist church of Rosewood Heights where she loved teaching children's Sunday school. She was also a member of the church's Family Circle.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a sister, Mattie Willoughby of Atwood, Ill.; a brother, Rolla Mabry of Seattle, Wash.; a cousin, Charles Mathus of Herrin; and many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her husband and their fine pet beagle, Molly.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Rosewood Heights or the 5 A's animal shelter.
