Edith Ann Howerton, 67, went to be with the Lord at 7:55 am Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Christian Hospital North East.

She was born on February 26, 1942 in Alton, Illinois, daughter of Claude A. and Edith M. (Lawson) Wilderman.

Edith was employed at ATCOM for the Federal Government in the parts percurement department for over 30 years retiring in 1992. She was of the Southern Baptist Faith and loved to spend time outside in nature and be with her family and friends.

She is survived by one son, Otis Lee Howerton of St. Louis; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jane Beckman of St. Louis and Sally & Michael Hoffner of Edwardsville; eight grandchildren, Ryan Lee Sr., Danielle, Austin and Benjiman Howerton, Nicole, Jessica and Samanatha Beckman and Jami Hoffner; five great grandchildren, Allysia , Ryan Jr. and Gavyn Howerton, Matthew Dixon II and Kylee Beckman-Tague; one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth & Sonny Allensworth of Godfrey and many nieces.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Claude A. Wilderman Jr.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday, February 2, 2009 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.

Funeral service will be at 11 am on Wednesday, February 3, 2009 at Staten-fine Funeral Home in Alton, with Pastor Charles West officiating.

Burial will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be given to the National Wildlife Federation.
