Marjorie Ann Johnson, 75, died at 11:27 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, IL. Born October 12, 1934 in Alton, she was the daughter of Vernon E. and Margaret (Walker) Dehner Sr.
She was a Personnel Officer for Mercantile Bank for many years, retiring in December 1984. She was very involved with Elm Street Presbyterian Church in Alton where she had been a member since 1947. She was also a member of the Ninian Edwards Chapter of the D.A.R., the Madison County and Greene County Historical Society, and was a former president of the Alton Business and Professional Women's Association. On June 12, 1954 she married Harold Myron Cox. They later divorced. She then married William H. Johnson on October 12, 1974 in Alton. He preceded her in death on December 30, 1992.
Surviving are two daughters; Catherine Lister and her husband Gregory of Brentwood, TN, and Karen Auston and her husband Jeff of Godfrey, seven grandchildren; Mary Cordes, Sarah Williams, Becky Saville, Emily Paddock, Hannah Auston, and Adam and Eric Lister, two step-grandchildren, Jason Auston and Jamie Page, four great grandchildren, one brother, Robert Dehner of Tallahassee, FL, one sister, Janet Cox of Tallahassee, FL, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers; Vernon Dehner Jr., Elmer Dehner, and Lloyd Dehner, and two sisters; Mary Wakefield, and Rosella Roberts.
A memorial visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Elm Street Presbyterian Church in Alton. Pastor Michael Paddock will officiate. Burial will be private at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Wrights, IL. Memorials may be made to the Elm Street Presbyterian Church or the St. Louis Children's Hospital, One Children's Place, St. Louis, MO 63110. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
