James Arthur Cannon passed from his earthly home to a celestial reunion with many relatives and friends on January 15, 2010. He was born May 13, 1915, son of William Arthur and Mariemma (Kremer) Cannon in Alton.

He attended Alton schools, graduating from Alton High School in June 1933. He worked at various jobs in the Alton area as well as three years in Chicago. In January 1942, he enlisted in the military service where he remained until October 1945. He became an aerial navigator First Lieutenant involved in the delivery of aircraft to England, North Africa, and India. Following his return to the Alton area he was employed by Duncan Foundry and Machine Works for more than 40 years, until their closing. He was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in Alton, a member of the Edwardsville Chapter of S.A.R., and a past president and member for many years of the St. Louis Chapter of the American Foundrymen's Society. On May 17, 1944, he married Evelyn Kruse of Alton in Wilmington, DE.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, a son, John D. Cannon, a daughter-in-law, Mary, two granddaughters, Jeralyn Carroll and her husband Joshua, and Alice Cannon, also a great grandson, Elijah T. Carroll all of the Chattanooga, TN area. Also surviving is a sister, Helen Riecks of The Woodlands, TX, a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Margie Cannon of Elyria, Ohio, a sister-in-law, Dorothy Cannon of Godfrey, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, George Cannon, and a son, James Michael Cannon.

Following cremation, a memorial visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 4:00 p.m. Monday at the Main Street United Methodist Church in Alton. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Main Street United Methodist Church or to the BJC Hospice. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
