Mary Schulz

Mary Rose Schulz, 92, died at 11:05 am Monday, January 11, 2010 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. The seventh of nine children, she was born on February 11, 1917 in Alton, IL, the daughter of Bernard C. & Mary (Hauck) Schulz.

She attended St. Mary's grade school, and graduated from Marquette High School in 1935. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's church in Alton. A lifelong secretary, she was employed by a number of firms including Western Cartridge, Monticello College, Dow Chemical, Phelps-Dodge Aluminum, and finally St. Louis Cold Drawn Steel. Mary loved to read and play piano and has a flair for adventure, which led her to travel all over the world. She visited all of the continents except Australia. She was much loved by her nieces and nephews, whom she treated as well as if they were her own children.

Surviving are two brothers and a sister-in-law, Robert W. Schulz and Arthur E. and Dorothy Schulz, all of Alton, numerous nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Catharine Conley, Henry Schulz, Bernard A. Schulz, Tony Schulz, Father Albert Schulz SJ and Virginia Merkle

In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 9 am until time of funeral Mass at 10 am Saturday, January 16, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton with Father Shawn Monahan OMV celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Alton. Memorials may be made to Masses at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
