Virginia Darr

Virginia Rose Darr, 88, died at 12:50 a.m., on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home after several years of declining health. She was born on the family farm in English Township, Jersey County, Il. on Jan. 2, 1922, one of two daughters born to the late Bernard Joseph "Ben" and Carrie Pearl (Crowder) Kallal.

She graduated in 1940 from Jersey Township High School, and attended the College of St. Theresa n Winona, Mn. She married Milton C. Darr on Aug. 29, 1942 in the rectory of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville.  Virginia worked at the Western in East Alton for a short time, and moved to Norfolk Va., where Milton was stationed while he was in the service.  They moved back to the farm in 1947, where they remained. They shared 60 years together before his death on Apr. 23, 2003.

Surviving are a son & daughter in law, Bernie & Sarah Darr of Jerseyville; a daughter in law, Ella Darr of Jerseyville; nine grandchildren & their spouses, Bethany & Chris Vahle of Jerseyville, Stephanie Darr of Ft. Myers, Fl., Andrew Darr and Bernie Darr both of Jerseyville, Tom & Bertha Slow of Roodhouse, Rita & Vic Short of Eldred, Sarah & Mike Telega, Matthew & Becky Darr all of Jerseyville, and Robert & Suella Darr of Milwaukee, Wi.; 12 Great Grandchildren; a sister, Ramona Boehler of Jerseyville; and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Douglas Darr on Aug. 27, 1999; an infant daughter, Mary Millicent Darr; an infant grandson, Benjamin Darr in 1984; and a brother in law, Robert Boehler. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. 

Monday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where a prayer service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father William Hembrow officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Fieldon. Memorials may be given to St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools, American Parkinsons Foundation, or to Masses.
