Helen Muffley

Helen Edna Muffley, 90, died peacefully at 4:25 a.m., Friday, January 1, 2010 at her residence. She was born on April 15, 1919 in East Hardin, Il., one of six children born to the late Henry C. & Jessie A. (Cairns) Geisler.

Helen was a devout Catholic and a devoted member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville, where she was a member of the Altar Society.  She was also a member of both the Jersey County Home Extension and the Women of the Moose.

She married William Leonard Muffley on Jan. 10, 1942 at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Brighton, and they shared 60 years together before his death on Sept. 18, 2002. Surviving her seven children & their spouses, William & Barbara Muffley of Banning, Ca., James & Dana Muffley of Jerseyville, Mary & James Underwood of Woodburn, Margaret & Marlyn Alward of Piasa, John & Julie Muffley of Houston, Tx., Robert Muffley of Shipman, and Michael & Elizabeth Muffley of Pontoon Beach; 17 Grandchildren; 24 Great Grandchildren; and one great great grandson.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Miller; and four brothers, Lester, Charles, Edmund & Herman Geisler.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where a prayer service will begin at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father D. Patrick Gibbons officiating.

Burial will be in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools, BJC Hospice or to Masses.
