Edward F. Hanlon, 81 of Sterling died Friday December 25, 2009 at his home. He was born on August 15, 1928 in Alton, IL the son of Edward Joseph and Mary Lucille (Walters) Hanlon.
He married Dorothy J. Garner on December 29, 1950 in Alton. Edward was a veteran of the Korean War having served as a PFC in the US Army. He was employed by Owens - Illinois in Alton for 45 years retiring in 1990. When he and his wife moved to Sterling Edward became a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling. His family and his faith were of utmost importance to him. He enjoyed duck hunting, fishing and had a great love for the outdoors.
Surviving is his wife, Dorothy; three sons, Dr. Shawn P. (Nancy) Hanlon of Sterling, Cullen F. Hanlon of Chicago and E. Shamus (Kim) Hanlon of Evanston; one daughter, Mollie K. (Dr. Martin Corless) Hanlon of Clarks Hill, IN; three sisters, Patricia Tomblingson of East Alton, IL, Sheila (Ron) Reckard of Janesville, WI and Nancy (Larry) Bundridge of Wood River, IL; three brothers, Michael (Lavonne) Hanlon of Hardin, KY, James (Dottie) Hanlon and Timothy (Joyce) Hanlon both of Alton, IL; 8 grandchildren and 1 great grand child.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Thomas; one infant brother and one infant sister.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Staten Fine Funeral Home in Alton, with a 5 p.m. prayer service.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Delix Michel S.S.L.
Burial will follow at in St. Patrick's in Godfrey, IL. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sterling, IL or toward Masses.
