Chad S. Thorp, 27, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2009 in Godfrey as a result of an automobile accident. He was born on May 14, 1982 in Alton the son of Ronald "Ron" and Cheryl (Fortschneider) Thorp. He married Nicole Renee Gaudreault on September 11, 2004 at Word of Life Tabernacle Church in Granite City, Illinois. She passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2009 in Godfrey. Survivors include his parents of Wood River, one son: Dalton Xavier Thorp of Godfrey, one sister: Casey Thorp of Aurora, Illinois, two brothers and sisters in law: Ronald and Dee Thorp of Alton, Todd and Michelle Thorp of Maryville, Illinois three nephews and a niece: Dayne Thorp, Jacob Thorp, Wyatt Thorp, and Lauren Thorp, his paternal grandfather: Leron Thorp of Wood River, along with several aunts and uncles.
He was a 2001 graduate of Roxana High School. He was a conductor for Union Pacific. He loved hunting, fishing, and cooking. He was the former Cadet for the Wood River Police Department. He served in the Illinois National Guard.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Elden and June Fortschneider and his paternal grandmother: Jean Thorp.
Visitation will be from 2pm to 8pm on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. A prayer service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Bethalto. Father Tom Liebler will be the celebrant and Rev. Henry Crippen will assist. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Godfrey with full military rites by the Ritual Team of VFW Post 1308.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Dalton Xavier Thorp trust fund in care of Granite City Steel Federal Credit Union and will be accepted at the funeral home.
