Joseph Jones

Wood River |

Joseph "Jody" Jones, 61, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 17, 2009 at his home with his family by his side. He was born July 20, 1948 in Jerseyville to Becky Jacobs and Joseph Jones, Sr. A graduate of Roxana High School, he served and was wounded in Vietnam. He later worked for Bell Helicopter, traveling the world twice over and settling for a time in Iran and England. He obtained his BA and Masters Degrees from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. He became a professor for Embry Riddle in Dayton Beach, Fla. for 8 years. After returning to Wood River in 1997, he has worked for Trans State Airlines as a training instructor.

Jody's real passion was music. A lifelong bass player, he has played with bands since age 16, starting with the Jagged Edge. He also had bands while living in Iran and England. His current band, The Quarter Draw Band is a local favorite.

He was preceded in death by his father; step fathers Leon Harper and William Jacobs; and a sister, Rhonda Stark Forsythe, who passed away June 11, 2009.

He is survived by his mother, Becky Jacobs of Wood River; a sister, Lisa Phelps and her husband Brian of Tenn.; 3 nephews, Brandon Phelps of N.C., Aaron Phelps of Tenn., and Craig Stark of Rosewood Heights; a niece, Cassie Richards and her husband Drew, and two great nieces, Kiley and Reagan Richards, all of Rosewood Heights.

As per his wishes, a memorial service will be announced at a later date. Any memorial donations may be given to Bethalto Church of God or 5 A's. Paynic Home for Funerals of Rosewood Heights is handling arrangements.
