Ted B. Lawton 87 died at 12:35 pm, Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at St. Anthony's Health Center in Alton, IL.

He was born February 20, 1922 to William Arthur and Irene Marie (Morrison) Lawton, on a farm west of Brighton, IL.

On June 25, 1946 he married the former Ada Graul at the Fosterburg Baptist Church in Fosterburg. She survives.

Ted was employed at the Owens-Illinois Glass Plant on Broadway in Alton, IL. for ten years, and then transferred to the Owens-Illinois Machine Shop in Godfrey, IL. for nine years retiring in 1984. He was a World War II veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from October, 1942 to October, 1945. He farmed in the Bunker Hill area for over 24 yrs. He was a member of the V.F.W. post 1308 of Alton, IL. He was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in Alton, IL. He delivered Meals on Wheels for 17 yrs. Volunteered to pick up trash on Bethany Lane for over ten yrs., He enjoyed playing pinochle three nights a week, and working in his yard and garden. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bunker Hill, IL. His greatest love was spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters and their husbands; Janet and Jim Saulsbury of Orlando, FL. and Debra and Jim Hanner of Bunker Hill, Il. five grandchildren; Marcie Floyd-Graf, Ted Hanner, Jake Hanner, Luke Hanner, and Wesley Hanner, and ten great-grandchildren; one brother; Lester Lawton of Bunker Hill, Il and one sister; Dorothy Grothaus of Carlinville, Il.

He was preceded in death by two brothers; Leo Lawton and Bernard Lawton, two sisters; Gertrude Morrow and Viola Freeland.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Thursday, December 17,, 2009 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home, in Alton.

Services will be at the Main Street United Methodist Church in Alton, IL. at 10 am on Friday, December 18, 2009 with the Rev. Jame Hahs officiating.

Burial will follow at the Brighton City Cemetery. Full military rites will be accorded by the V.F.W. Post 1308 of Alton, IL.

Memorials may be made to the Main Street United Methodist Church, or the Crisis Food Center.
