Robert Masiero

Robert Masiero, 72, passed away at 1:53 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 2009 at St. Anthony's Hospital. Born July 15, 1937, he was the son of Anton and Lettie Edith (Gibbs) Masiero. A U.S. Navy Veteran, he served from 1955-1958. He worked as a truck driver for Superior Oil Co. until his retirement in 2000. His marriage to Shirley Davis took place Dec. 12, 1958 in Cottage Hills. She survives.

He loved visiting Branson, Mo. He also loved his grandchildren and working at his church, Bethalto Church of God. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Tammy Masiero of Cottage Hills and Edward and Tina Masiero of South Roxana; four grandchildren, Brent, Mindy, Ashley and Chelsea Masiero; three sisters, Rose Marie Gares of Cottage Hills, Helen Null of Bethalto, and Judith Anna Zumwalt and her husband Keith of Hartford; a brother, Edward C. Masiero of Cottage Hills; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Elvis and Edith Davis of Medora.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Jean Allred; and four brothers, Anthony, John, Dewey, and Richard Masiero.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15 at the Bethalto Church of God, where Pastor Jeremy Robinson will officiate services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military honors by the ritual team of the VFW, Alton Post #1308. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Bethalto Church of God Debt Retirement Fund. Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights is in charge of arrangements.
