Mary Lyon

Mary Pogue Lyon died unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 2, 2009. She was 52 and resided in St. Louis. She was born and raised in Alton, Illinois; Mary was a graduate of Alton High and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.

Mary enjoyed philanthropic work, especially her time with Food For The Poor and the 1904 World's Fair Charitable Foundation. She was a member of Ladue Chapel in St. Louis. Mary's love of life and her radiant personality was a joy and inspiration to her family and friends. She was the consummate event planner which resulted in her younger sister's perfect wedding. Mary's compassion was evident everywhere, but especially when she helped her older sister through her cancer treatments and walked every Komen Race with her.

Mary was preceded in death by her father the Reverend Dr. Richard Lyon. Mary is survived by her mother Dorothy Lyon Pogue; her stepfather Joe Pogue; her sister Dr. Susan Lyon; her brother Dr. John Lyon; her sister Sally Lyon Pfeiffer; brother-in-law Christopher Pfeiffer; nieces and nephews, Thomas, David and Stephen Hudson, Taylor, Rebecca and Jessica Lyon, and Ellie and Ned Pfeiffer.

A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church in Alton with Reverend Brett Hendrickson to officiate. A reception with the family will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ladue Chapel, 9450 Clayton Rd, St. Louis, MO, 63124 or First Presbyterian Church, P.O.
