Joseph Malone

Joseph F. Malone, 80, went to be with the Lord on at 4:15 pm on Monday, November 30, 2009 at Alton Memorial Hospital while under the care of BJC Hospice.

He was born on May 7, 1929 in Alton, Illinois, son of the late Vincent F. & Grace (Romono) Malone.

He married Marjorie R. Montroy on December 26, 1953 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Alton. She preceded him in death.

Joseph served his country during WWII and the Korean Conflict in the United States Navy. He was employed at Owens Illinois Glass as a welder retiring in 1981. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River and a life time member of the Alton VFW Post 1308. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a volunteer as a pallbearer.

He is survived by his two sisters, Loretta & Allen McNitt of Carterville, GA and Grace & Charles W. Nowack of Bethalto and six nieces nephews and their spouses, Teri Malson of East Alton, Jim & Sherry Holtwisch & Rick and Rita Holtwisch both of TX, Gary & Mary Lou McNitt of New Hamberg, Ontario, Kimberly Tanaczuck of London, Ontario and Phillip & Robbi McNitt of Cartersville, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parent, a stepson, William Meridth and a nephew, Bradford McNitt.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 am on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River with Father James Flach officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Alton with military rites being preformed by the Alton VFW Post 1308.

Memorials may be made to Holy Angles Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.
