Norene Rae Zahner, age 75, passed away at 10:20 pm, Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.
She was born in Bottienau, North Dakota on October 28, 1934, to the late Emil and Grace Gertrude (Gallagher) Norberg.
She was married to Max Zahner on June 1, 1957 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Independence, MO he preceded her in death on May 29, 1969.
Norene was a registered nurse at St. Anthony's Health Center in Alton for 29 yrs before her retirement. She was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Alton, IL.
She is survived by two daughter's; Kathryn Zahner of Alton, IL. and Elaine Gengenbacher and her spouse Ron of Aurora, Il. two sons; Steve Zahner of Delavan, IL. and Alan Zahner and his spouse Mary Ann of Alton, Il. six grandchildren; Emily Zahner, Amy Zahner, Kimberly Zahner, Mallory Zahner, Max Gengenbacher, and Ashley Gengenbacher, and one sister; Donna Norberg, of Independence, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and an infant son David..
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Friday, November 27, 2009 at the Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL. with a Rosary at 4 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be at 10 am, Saturday, November 28, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, Il. with the Rev. Father Chris Uhl, OMV officiating.
Burial will be at Rose lawn memory Gardens, in Bethalto, IL.
Memorials may be directed to the St. Anthony's Health Center and or the Sister's of St. Francis.
