Annabel Chapman, 98, of Alton, formerly of Robinson, died at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 13, 2009 at Bethalto Care Center. Born April 17, 1911 in Virginia, IL, she was the daughter of John and Mae (Glover) Doerr. She made her home in Robinson until 1995 when she moved to Marian Heights in Alton. She married Oval Kenneth Chapman. He preceded her in death. Surviving is a son, Robert Hurley and his wife June of Bunker Hill, two grandchildren, Patrick Hurley and his wife Shirley Ann, and Bobbye June Hughes and her husband Louis, 7 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, a sister, Bernice Rowden and her husband Stanley of Alton, 9 nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law, Jane Doerr of East Alton. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorthanell Ann Hurley, a grandson, Michael Hurley, three brothers, John Norman Doerr, Staff Sergeant Paul Doerr, and Kenneth Doerr, two sisters; Mae Lenore Doerr, and Dorothy French, a sister-in-law, Nita Slettens, and a dear friend, Leo Shook. Visitation will be from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be at Oblong Cemetery in Oblong, IL.
