Sevelia Allen Holmes, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2009 at 3:22 a.m. at Barnes Hospital after an extended illness. Born November 5, 1932 in Alton she was the daughter of Dr. Glenn I. and Frances (Fine) Allen. She grew up in Alton and graduated from Monticello College and Washington University School of Medical Technology. She was a past president of the Junior League of Alton, a past member of the Alton Community Service League and P.E.O. Chapter IL. She was a member of College Avenue Presbyterian Church.
On September 25, 1954 she married C. Thomas Holmes in Oxford, England. They have three daughters, Alicia Itria and husband Al of Austin, Texas, Sonja Morris and husband Neal of Wichita, Kansas and Andrea Meyers of Alton. They have six grandchildren, Allison and Emma Itria, Glenn Meyers and Meredith, Matthew and Mitchell Morris.
In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren she is survived by her brothers Dr. William Allen and Dr. Robert Allen and nieces Janet Schwaninger and Joan Westerhold. Her sister, Frances Allen preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 12 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A private funeral service and internment will be held on Friday.
