Theodore Marth

Theodore Henry Marth Jr., 77, passed away at 3:40 pm on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 27, 1932 in Bunker Hill, IL, the son of Theodore & Mary Edna (Nolan) Marth, Sr. He married Awanda Flatt on October 6, 1951 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alton, IL. She survives.

Ted worked at Olin Corporation in East Alton for 44 years, retiring in 1994. He was a proud Army veteran, stationed in Korea and Japan during in the Korean Conflict. He was a life member of the Alton VFW Post 1308. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto, serving as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Lay Minister and many other boards and committees. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Men's Club and was Chairman of Zion Sausage Supper for several years. He was coordinator of the Bethalto Senior Bus Program for 14 years and was a volunteer driver for the bus service. He also served the Bethalto Community on the Zoning committee. His hobbies included wood working and wine making which he loved to share. His family and friends were a wonderful blessing for him.

He was loved and will be greatly missed by his wife of fifty eight years, Awanda; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet & Paul Wicker of Steelville, IL and Julie & David Zeiger of Fults, IL; a son and daughter-in-law, David & Susan Marth of Moro; 5 grandchildren, Ben & Sam Ashby, and Chloe, Blake & Clare Marth; a sister and brother-in-law, Dolores & Noble Watkins of Godfrey; two nieces, Patty Watkins Murphy of Nashville, TN and Pam & Michael Myrick of Longview, TX; one aunt, Amanda & Hillard Hamilton of Bethalto and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Visitation will continue from 10 am until funeral services at 11 am on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto with Rev. Dan Decker and Rev. Mark Hofferber officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military rites given by Alton VFW Post 1308..
