Helen O. Rister, 94, passed away at 12:30 am Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at her home with her family by her side.
She was born on January 24, 1915 in Havana IL, the daughter of Eugene V. & Mazzie L. (Allen) Shafer.
She married Paul E. Rister on September 23, 1945 in Alton. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1968.
Helen was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Rebekahs. She loved the St. Louis Cardinal's, playing Bingo, cards, and watching the Lawrence Welk Show, with her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, family and especially her grandsons.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Theresa Rister of Alton; two grandsons, Paul Rister III and Andrew W. Rister; one sister, Christina Bowman of Alton and one brother and sister-in-law, Miles & Bernice Shafer of MI.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, Paul W. Rister and his brothers, sisters and their spouses.
A memorial visitation will be from 10 am until time of service at 11 am on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 1st Baptist Church in Fosterburg.
Inurnment will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens at a later date.
Memorials may be made to her grandson's education fund.
