Walter Taylor

Walter Dean Taylor, 84, died Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. He was born March 18, 1925 in Mulberry Grove, IL to Walter and Berniece Taylor. On August 31, 1946 he married Viola (Grandfield) Taylor and she preceded him in death December 18, 2000. He was Director of Guidance with the Alton School system for over 30 years. He was a petty officer and radioman with the U.S. Navy during WWII and served with the Marine Corp on Iwo Jima. He was a past member of the board of The Salvation Army, a member of Alton VFW post 1308 and an avid golfer and poker player. He is survived by two sons; Reid and his wife Margaret Taylor of Jerseyville, IL and Regan Taylor of Alton. Two grandchildren; Timothy Taylor of Fieldon and Sarah Taylor of Jerseyville. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 27, 2009 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army or Main Street United Methodist Church.
