Monica M. Garrison, 92, passed away at 11:10 am on Friday, October 23, 2009 at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra.
She was born on May 7, 1917 in Pike County, IL, the daughter of Rhemy Cecil & Mabel (Vickroy) Wheeler.
She married Harry Garrison on October 3, 1935 in Pike, Co. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1983.
Monica worked in the payroll department at Olin Corporation for 42 years until retiring in 1994. She was proud to be the oldest active employee, being 78 years old when she retired. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Hartford, which is now the Maple St. Chapel. She was a volunteer at the Wood River Hospital. She was involved in the Western Club, PTA, Election Judge, Mother's Club, Brownie leader and Girl Scouts leader. She loved to quilt, working at her job and loved to spend time with her friends, family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda & Norman Kopp of Spencer, TN; three grandchildren and their spouses, Cory & Denise Hartmann of Alton, Tommy & Sami Neumann of Bethalto and Melissa Hartmann of Signal Mt., TN. and three great grandchildren, Bradley and Austin Hartmann and Samuel Neumann.
Besides her parents, husband she was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Harriet & Tom Neumann; one sister, Mildred Scranton and two brothers, Bruce and Adrian Wheeler.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Funeral service will be at 10 am on Monday, October 26, 2009 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Sadona McMillan officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra.
