Orlean DeGerlia

Orlean M. DeGerlia, 85, passed away peacefully at 2:40 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2009 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 25, 1923 in Alton, she was the daughter of Burton and Ethel (Garner) Newcome.
A corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, she served during World War II.
She married Thomas E. DeGerlia Nov. 13, 1945 in Washington, N.C. He survives.
A division manager for Sears-Roebuck in Alton, she retired in 1982 after 22 years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of East Alton for over 40 years, and sang in their choir for 40 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Thomas Allan DeGerlia of Denver, Colo. and Danial William DeGerlia of Johnstown, Colo.; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and a sister, Bethel Banister of Lincoln, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Juanita Frey.
There will be a memorial service at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29 at the First United Methodist Church of East Alton, and memorial donations are suggested to the church.
