Isla Dooley

Isla Almeda Dooley, 102, died at 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at her daughter's home in Benld. Born December 1, 1906 in Palmyra, IL, she was the daughter of George T. and Clara N. (Thompson) Shinpaugh. She worked for Tony's restaurant making salads and also worked in housekeeping at the Highway House for 19 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton and the Gillespie VFW Auxiliary. On October 15, 1927 in Alton, she married Oran "Slim" Dooley. He preceded her in death on August 22, 1977. Surviving is a daughter, Sharon Castiglione and her husband Eugene of Benld, a grandson, Scott Reynolds of Alton, a great granddaughter, Stephanie Reynolds of Alton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers; Roy and Kenneth Shinpaugh, and two sisters; Mary Hartman, and Thelma Shinpaugh. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday. Reverend Andre' Dobson will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or a charity of choice.
