Patrick Sugent

Patrick L. Sugent Sr., 90, died at 3:20 a.m. Friday, October 9, 2009 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born February 11, 1919 in East St. Louis, IL, he was the son of Joseph and Anna (Gercys) Sugent. He was a machinist for the Olin Corporation, retiring after 43 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, and a member of the Machinist Union Bluff City Lodge 660 in East Alton. On June 10, 1946 in Springfield, IL, he married the former Margaret Forgas. She preceded him in death on August 1, 1984. Surviving are four daughters; Margaret Wagner of Edwardsville, Mary Ann Christopher of Belleville, Janet Runge of Kansas City, MO, and Theresa Dunn of East Alton, three sons; Patrick Sugent Jr. of Alton, Joseph Sugent of Alton, and John Sugent of East Alton, 11 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother, Anthony Sugent, three sisters; Anne Grimes, Mary Turner, and Joanna Sugent, two brothers who died in infancy, Joseph and Francis Sugent, and a sister who died in infancy, Barbara Sugent. A Rosary Service will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Gent Funeral Home followed by a visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. Burial will be at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials may be made to Masses.
