John Ellsworth Clark, 79, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Saddleback Memorial Hospital in Laguna Hills, CA.

He was born in Alton, IL on July 27, 1930, the son of William Franklin and Irene (Kellerhouse) Clark.

He married Joan Miller on January 15, 1955 in Wood River, IL. She survives.

John served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was an operating engineer at Shell Oil Refinery for over 35 years, and a real estate broker and developer in the greater Alton area. John displayed a love for family and friends and had various hobbies and interests including finance, sports, and the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Joan of Laguna Hills, CA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Leslie Clark of Laguna Niguel, CA and Kelly and Jean Clark of Wood River; three grandchildren, Chris Clark, Courtney Clark, Christina Dutton and a great grandson, David James Dutton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Allen and William and his grandson David Harrison.

Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Elias Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Funeral services will be on Friday, October 2, 2009 at 1:30 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Chip Faulkner officiating.

Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military rites given by Alton VFW Post 1308 ritual team.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
