Dorothy M. Hard, 84, passed away at 12:30 pm Sunday September 27, 2009 at her residence with her family by her side.
She was born on February 9, 1925, in Alton, IL. the daughter of Earl E. and Rotha F. (Britton) Fay.
Dorothy married Clifford B. Hard on June 16, 1946 in Alton, IL. He survives.
She attended Milton School through the 6th grade and was a 1943 graduate of Alton High School. She retired from the Alton School system as a secretary for Thomas Jefferson School in June of 1980. Dorothy was a devoted wife, cherished mother, adored grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a loving, caring friend to all.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, and four children; Steve Hard and his companion Deanna Brown of Bethalto, IL. Terry A. Hard of Alton, IL. Randy L. and his spouse Donna Hard of Alton, IL. and Nancy M. (Hard) and her spouse Michael Dugge of Godfrey, Il. eleven grandchildren, Tammy and Nicholas Williams, Michael Hard, Lisa Scaturro, Adam Hard and his fiancé Heather Carpenter, Chris and Meghan Hard, Jennifer Hard, Jeffrey Hard and his fiancé Rachel Simpson, Jessica Dugge and her fiancé Todd Applegate, Kathryn Hard, Ashleigh and Derek Austill, and Matthew Hard. There are 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers Harold (Bud) Fay and Earl Fay, and two sisters Ada (Fay) Schwartzbeck, and Edna Fay.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home, in Alton, IL. where the funeral service will be conducted at 10 am on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 with the Rev. Jame Hahs officiating.
Burial will follow at the Upper Alton Cemetery, In Alton, Il.
Memorials may be directed to the Main Street United Methodist Church, in Alton, IL.
