Joseph Bick

Joseph John Bick, 65, died at 4:16 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2009 at his residence after a battle with lung cancer. He was born in Carrollton on Sept. 8, 1944, and was one of seven children born to Joseph W. and Gertrude T. (Klocke)  Bick. He attended Jersey Community High School, and was a resident of Jersey County his entire life.  He enjoyed the outdoors whether it was fishing or searching for mushrooms, and was a talented carpeter who could virtually make anything. He retired from Koch-Glitstsch Field Services , and was a union boilermaker for over 30 years. Joe married Melba Jo (Daves) Pregler on Dec. 31, 1992, and they have shared and enjoyed nearly 17 years together. Surviving are his wife, Melba; his mother, Gertrude Bick of Jerseyville; three children, Douglas Bick  and Chris Powell both of Jerseyville, and Leighann Brady of Springfield; three step children and their spouses, Penny & Mark Clark of Kane, Preston & Sherrie Pregler and Paul Pregler all of Jerseyville; 12 Grandchildren, Daniel, Rochelle, and Katie Powell, Andrew, Samantha, & Joline Brady, Joey Bick, Brittany Pregler, Bryan Retherford, Mason Wyatt Clark, and grandpas little girl, Jazmine Pregler; and an exptected great grandchild; two sisters & a brother in law, Betty & William Cunningham of Bokeelia, Fl., and Bonnie Jones of Jerseyville; four brothers & sisters in law, Robert & Sandy Bick of Dade City, Fl., David & Terry Bick of Tampa, Fl., James & Cindy Bick of Jerseyville, and Dennis & Pam Bick of Grafton; numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and his dog, Libby. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph W. Bick; a brother in law, William Jones, and a sister in law, Barbara Bick. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday.  Rev. Alfred Daves will officiate. Burial will in the Kane Cemetery. Memorials may be given to his grandchildren in care of the funeral home.
