Roy L. Shelton, age 79, went to be with the Lord at 9:12 am on Monday, September 14, 2009 at his home.

He was born on March 5, 1930 in Eldorado, IL, the son of Roy & Clara B. (Ballard) Shelton.

He married Helen M. Grant on December 17, 1950 in Eldorado, IL. She passed away on September 10, 2009.

He worked as a custodian for the East Alton Wood River High School for 12 years. He was a member of the Bethalto Church of God. Roy tried out for the St. Louis Cardinals, played fast pitch softball as a short stop, loved baseball and hunting and he sang in church quartets. Most of all he loved spending time with his great grandchildren.

He is survived by his mother, Clara Phelps of Harrisburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen & Donald Phillips of Wood River; five grandchildren and their spouses, Erin Phillips, Amber & Ben Ellis, Adam & Taryn LeGette, Adam Phillips and Alicia Neal; five great grandchildren, Erica, Emalee, Adaline, Milla and Taylor; one brother & sister-in-law, Rev. Richard and Sandra Shelton of MI; one sister, Melba Ramsey of Eldorado, IL; nieces & nephews, Jeri & Jim Vickery of Eldarado, IL, Krista & Brian Raburn and Rich & Jennifer Shelton of Texas; seven brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and their spouses, Chloe & Calvin Denny of South Roxana, Flo Headrick of Richland, Washington State, Sylvia & Don Beasley of Brighton, Rosalie & Donnie Tucker of Bethalto, Dale & Lynnette Grant of South Roxana, John & Judy Grant of Pekin, IL and Kathy & Ed Douglas of Norris City, IL and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, wife, one infant son, James Roy Shelton and infant twin sisters.

Visitation was from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, September 14, 2009 at the Bethalto Church of God.

Visitation will continue from 9:00 am to service time at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the Bethalto Church of God with Pastor Jeremy Robinson officiating.

Memorials may be made to Debt Retirement Fund at the Bethalto Church of God.

Graveside services will take place at 3:30 pm at Wolf Creek Cemetery in Eldorado, IL.
