Suzan J. Whipple, 62, went to be with the Lord at 2:20 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Eunice Smith Nursing Home.
She was born on March 15, 1947 in Carrollton, IL, the daughter of Joseph & Joan (Vallentine) Powell. Suzan grew up in Greenfield and was a graduate of the Greenfield High School.
She married Harold Lee Whipple on August 23, 1969 in Greenfield, IL, spending 40 years together. He survives.
Suzan had attended Western IL Univ. and Southern IL Univ. She was employed at Olin Corp. as a secretary for 26 years. She then did secretarial work for the City of Bethalto in the Village office and most recently, worked at Dugger Swimming Pool as a pay roll clerk. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto, a past member of the Bethalto Woman's Club and involved with the parent teacher organization. She loved to cook and spend time with her family, friends and especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Derek & Carrie Whipple of Wood River and a daughter and son-in-law, Holly & Christopher Brockman of Bethalto; four grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob and Madelyn Brockman and Audrey Whipple; one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph & Sandy Powell of Cummings, GA; one sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer & Steve Hopper of Greenfield; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto on Thursday, September 10, 2009.
Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. to service time at 11:00 a.m. on Friday,
September 11, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Hofferber, Dan Decker and Willard Meyer officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Schools and or the Bethalto Boy's and Girl's Club.
