David P. Morgenroth, 83, died at 8:44 p.m. Monday, August 31, 2009 at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton. Born November 24, 1925 in Godfrey, he was the son of Gustav and Alma Esther (Jacoby) Morgenroth. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, MO and served as a Lt. in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a communications officer on a naval transport in the Pacific. He owned and operated Morgenroth Nursery in Godfrey for nearly 40 years. On January 2, 1952 in Alton he married the former Martha Jean Fischer. She preceded him in death on January 23, 1992. Surviving is a daughter, Melissa Modica and her husband Matt of St. Peters, MO, three sons; David P. Morgenroth Jr. and his wife Madeline of Batavia, IL, Matt Morgenroth and his wife Jill of Singapore, and Luke Morgenroth and his wife Terri of Alton, and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two brothers; Dan E. and Edward Morgenroth. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Reverend Chris Hucker will officiate. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
