F. George "Steve" Stevenson, 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep at 3:00 A.M Sunday August 30, 2009 at Alton Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born February 21, 1926 in Salem, IL the son of Edgar and Minnie (Mundweiler) Stevenson.

He married the former Lucille Niermann on September 19, 1948 in Hoyleton, IL she survives.

He started in the automobile business in 1948 in Alton with Walz Oldsmobile and established Quality Pontiac in Alton in 1958 and continued to serve as President until his death. He worked along side with his two sons Greg and David and two grandsons Chad and Cody. He served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during WWII as a signalman, and he was a member of the Alton VFW Post 1308.

He was an active member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey for 60 years. He also was a member of Lockhaven Country Club, and avid golfer. He served on numerous Automobile Dealers Councils at the state and national levels, and he was formerly a member of the Alton-Godfrey Rotary Club.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and their wives Greg and Gerri (Neubauer) Stevenson of Hazelwood, MO, David and Carol (Adams) Stevenson of Godfrey; four grandchildren Jill Stevenson, Natalie (Stevenson) and spouse Cole Merrill of Moberly, MO, Chad and his spouse Megan (Ashlock) Stevenson of Godfrey, Cody and spouse Nicole (Krueger) Stevenson of Alton, four great grandchildren and one sister Helen Waggoner of Witchita, KS, and many neices and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers

Visitation will be held at 4 to 8 pm Tuesday September 1, 2009 at the Elias Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey and Wednesday September 2, 2009 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey with Funeral Services at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Jerry MeCaskey officiating.

Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey where Military Rites will be conducted by the Military Team of the VFW Post 1308.

Memorials may be made to the Evangelical United Church of Christ School.
