Elizabeth C. Carter, 95, passed away at 8:25 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009 at her home.
Born Nov. 26, 1913 in Sefton Township, Fayette County, Ill., she was the daughter of William Frank and Mary Allen.
She married Harry D. Carter Sept. 3, 1934 in Roxana. He died Sept. 14, 1992.
A hairdresser, she worked at Allen Sisters Beauty Shop in Roxana.
Survivors include a daughter, Marian K. Murphy-Twigg of Roxana; a daughter-in-law Sheila Carter of Slidell, La.; 7 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 25 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Hazel Douglas of O'Fallon, Ill.; and two stepsisters, NormaLee Terry of Brownstown and Betty Strombaugh.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Janice Carter; a son, Neal Allen Carter; a sister, Elsie Ellington; a brother, Earl Allen; a stepsister and a stepbrother.
Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 29 at the United Presbyterian Church in Wood River from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Rev. Pam Laing will officiate.
Interment will be at Carter Cemetery in Carrollton.
Memorials may be made to the church, where she was a member.
