DORIS HERNDON PHOENIX, AZ.- Doris J. (Pegue) Herndon passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 surrounded by her loving family at Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix.

An Illinois farm girl, Doris was born on March 26, 1946, the daughter of the late Francis & Edith (Telkamp) Pegue. She graduated from Barnes Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis, and moved to Phoenix in 1970 and worked 20 years at Good Samaritan and Maryvale Hospitals as a registered nurse serving others. She then proceeded to work at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in the Human Resource Department for another 20 years. She earned her bachelors degree while working at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center from Ottawa University. Doris is survived by her loving husband Gary Herndon of Phoenix; her devoted sons, Benjamin Herndon, and his wife, Laura of Thousand Oaks, Ca., and Andrew Herndon and Stephanie Lindstrom of Phoenix; her two loving sisters, Phyllis Matteuzzi of St. Louis, and Rose Marie Niemeyer of Grafton; two brothers James Pegue of Grafton, and David Pegue of Fieldon; and numerous neices, nephews, cousins and close friends. Doris will always be remembered for her beautiful smile which lifted everyones spirits, for always putting family, faith and friends above all else and for being the most amazing woman possible.
The family wishes to thank the Gardiner Home of Hospice of the Valley for their care and support during this time.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Celebration will be said at 10 a.m., Thursday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fieldon with Father William Hembrow officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Fieldon.
