Lucious Gentry

Lucious Leon Gentry, 87, passed away at 7:25 am, Thursday, August 6, 2009 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born on March 4, 1922 in Algoa, Arkansas, the son of George S. & Lucille (Smith) Gentry.

He married Barbara Mae Potter on September 7, 1947 in Morganfield, Kentucky. She survives.

Lucious served in the 101st Airborne Division, Glider Corp during World War II. He served all through Europe and fought in five major conflicts, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Lucious' last battle is over and he has won. Peace and Harmony prevails. His family is very proud of him.

He worked at Olin Corporation as a machine operator until his retirement and he was a member of the VFW in Cottage Hills.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel S. & Arlene Gentry of Bunker Hill and Russell L & Fran Gentry of Bethalto; four grandchildren, Danyel, Derek, Dustin & Christopher and eight beautiful and loving great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, William Gentry and a sister, Louise Rockett.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Funeral services will be on Monday, August 10, 2009 at the funeral home with Pastor Andre Dobson officiating.

Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with full military honors given.

Memorials may be given to BJC Hospice.
