Hubert E. "Bud" Conlee, 88, died at 5:50 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 8, 1920 in Carrollton, IL to Herbert and Eula (Pope) Conlee. He retired in 1983 as a Mold maker from Owens Illinois Glass Company Mold Shop in Alton after 46 years of service, where he was known as the Green Hornet because of his drawing cartoons. He entered the U.S. Army in September of 1942 where he served as sergeant of the guard at a German prison camp in France. He was honorably discharged on March 27, 1946 and loved to share his stories from his military experience. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Alton. For the past year he had made his home at the United Methodist Village which he absolutely enjoyed and loved. His hobbies were painting pictures and tying flies for fly fishing. On April 5, 1947 in Alton he married Mabel Lee (Cheatham) Williamson and she preceded him in death on August 13, 2003.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Ted Perotka of Alton, IL, a son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Kay Williamson of Godfrey, one daughter-in-law, Margaret Williamson of Alton, six grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Besides his wife he is preceded in death by a son, Robert Williamson and a sister, Dorothy Dixon.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 26, 2009 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Alton with Father David Boase to officiate. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery with full Military Honors by Alton VFW Post 1308. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
