He was born in Jerseyville on June 14, 1941, the oldest of two sons born to Harry Earl & Verda (Mohr) Bailey.
As a young man he had worked at various farms in the area, and has also been employed at Wells-Norris in Jerseyville. He then began working for Alton Box Board, now Jefferson Smurfitt, and retired in 1994 after 23 years of service.
He married Rosemary (Hibbs) Coombs on Nov. 2, 1996 at the Assembly of God Church in Fidelity, where they are members, and they have shared 12 special years together. Surviving are his wife, Rosemary Bailey of Fidelity; his mother, Verda Russell of Fidelity; a daughter & son in law, Billie & Terry Laubscher of Brighton; a son, John Bailey, and his girlfriend, Theresa Browning of South Roxana; two stepchldren, Michael Coombs of Wood River, and Heather (Dale) Haynes of Sentinel, Ok.; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren; a brother & sister in law, Roger & Barbara Bailey of Woodburn; and many nieces, nephews, and friends, including a special friend, Rev. Lucile Anderson of Medora.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Friday.
Rev. Elmer Chestnut will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the family in care of the funeral home.
