John T. Johns, age 86, died at 4:30 am Tuesday July 14, 2009 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton, IL.
He was born July 14, 1923 in East Alton, IL. He was the son of Clarence Lee and Doris (Farris) Johns.
He married Kathrene Young on June 14, 1947 in Alton, they have been married 62 years; she survives.
John served his country in the Pacific Islands in WWII while in the United States Army. He worked as a Machinist and scale repairman for the Winchester Olin Corporation for 46 years and retired in 1985. He was a sponsor for the Encounter Singing group and was formerly on the Board of Directors for Olin Credit Union.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter and her husband Debbie and Wayne Ruppert of Godfrey, a son and his wife Mike and Kim Johns of Godfrey, five grandchildren Amy, Brian & Darren Ruppert and Steven and his wife Amanda & Ashley Johns.
John was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Harry Lee Johns.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am Thursday, July 16, 2009 at the Main United Street Methodist Church in Alton, with visitation from 9 am til time of service with Pastor Jamie Hahs officiating.
Military Rites will be performed by the V.F.W. Post 1308 ritual team.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the Main Street United Methodist Church .
