Ralph Skinner

Ralph Roger Skinner, 71, died at 10:06 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2009 at home on the Skinner farm.
He was born in Hartford March 10, 1938 to Raymond and Cora (Crause) Skinner.
He married Connie George May 12, 1962. Her dad, Reverend R.E. George performed the ceremony. She survives.
In Sept. of 1956, Ralph joined the U.S. Navy and was part of an aviation group. He was stationed in Newfoundland and was discharged in 1960.
He worked for International Shoe and National Marine in Hartford before joining the Wood River Police Department in May, 1965. He graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va. in 1973. He retired as Chief of Police in 1988. After achieving his lifelong dream of moving to the family farm, he also continued work for Fire Safety in Wood River.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Cathy Sabolo of Wood River; a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Joya Skinner of Jerseyville; daughter and son-in-law Julie and Ed Pluhar of Glen Carbon; six grandchildren, Mickey and Jake Sabolo, Allison and Aimee Skinner, and Eddie and R.J. Pluhar; and he left many wonderful relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mrs. Joan Horton.
Passionate about the finer art of fishing, hunting, gardening and mowing with a John Deere tractor, Ralph shared his enthusiasms and skills with his grandchildren.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, July 9 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 10.
Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.
Memorials may be made to the Wood River Police Association.
