Kenneth R. "Ken" Calvin, 64, passed away at 8:55pm on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. He was born on August 24, 1944 in Neenah, Wisconsin the son of the late Russell and Lois (Robinson) Calvin. He is survived by his wife the former Peggy Haworth whom he married on November 20, 1992 in Edwardsville. Other survivors include three sons and two daughters in law: Alexander and Saundra Calvin of Germany Michael Calvin of Germany, and James and Laura Calvin of Ballwin, Missouri, one step ? son: Brian Robinson of Rome, Georgia, seventeen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two sisters: SueAnn Kayes of East Alton, Patricia Loggins of East Alton, and one brother and sister in law: Larry and Diana Calvin of Bethalto.
He was a member of the Teamster's Local 604. He worked as a driver at Cassens Transport in Fenton, Missouri. He was a Platoon Sgt. in the maintenance unit #936 in the United States Army. He was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ in Midway. He was a member of the Alton Eagles Aerie #254, the Wood River Eagles Aerie #2773, the Wood River VFW Post 2859, and the Bethalto American Legion #214.
Visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River with a Final Salute Ceremony at 7pm. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at the funeral home. Pastor Lori Shafer will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with full military honors by the Ritual Team of VFW Post 1308.
Memorials are suggested to the St. John's United Church of Christ in Midway.
