Richard C. "Stub" Goldman, 91 of Alton, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born July 3, 1917 in Danville, IL. Stub spent 4 years in the Army during WWII in the 9th Armored Division. He participated in the Allies first crossing of the Rhine River at Remagen, Germany on March 7, 1945. He operated grocery stores on Highland Avenue and then on Elm Street in Alton for 45 years. After retiring from the grocery business in 1984 he and his son Rick ran the Dairy Kreem Ice Cream store at Elm and Alby for 24 years. Stub was a 62 year member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge #25 AF and AM in Alton and belonged to the Twelfth Street Presbyterian Church in Alton. He is survived by his sister Genevive Deemer of Ft. Worth, TX and numerous nieces and nephews and good friend Stephanie Kribs-Grabner of Alton. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice (Calhoon) Goldman, his son Richard C. "Rick" Goldman Jr., 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Visitation will be Sunday, May 17, 2009 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Gent Funeral Home in Alton with a Masonic service at 4:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday with Reverend David Olson to officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors by VFW Post 1308. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Franklin Masonic Lodge # 25 AF and AM Scholarship Fund.
