Mary L. Cairns, 83, passed away at 7 pm Wednesday April 22, 2009 at the Rosewood Care Center in Alton, IL.
She was born on August 31, 1925 in Alton, IL. to Lee and Emily (Young) Cairns.
After High School Mary worked for 9 yrs. as a bookkeeper for Kinzel Flowers in Alton, she then worked as a Clerk for the Metropolitan Life Ins. Co. in Alton for over 29 yrs. retiring in 1981.
She is survived by a sister; Dorothy Cairns of Wood River, a sister-in-law; Dee Cairns of Godfrey, two Nephews; Jeff Cairns of Kampsville and Mike Cairns of Boston, MA. a niece; Debbie Comereski and her significant other Jeff Conroy of Brighton, two great nieces, Jamie Comereski of Brighton and Caitlin Cairns of Godfrey, a great nephew Justin Comereski of Victorville, CA. and an aunt Alice Young of Alton.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Hank Cairns and a nephew Steven Cairns and several uncles and her beloved aunt Lucille Young.
Visitation will be from 9 am, Saturday, April 25, 2009 till time of funeral service at
10 am, at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home, in Alton, IL. with the Rev. Jerry MeCaskey officiating.
Burial will follow at the Alton City Cemetery, Alton, IL.
Memorials may be made to the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey, IL.
