Paul L. Harlan, 70, died at 6:38 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2008 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. Born August 22, 1938 in Alton, he was the son of Harold A. Harlan and Virginia (Depper) Harlan Plumb. He retired from the U.s. Navy after serving 20 years and then retired from Cherry Street Baptist Church in Alton. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey, the Knights of Columbus in Godfrey and was very active with the Boy Scouts for many years. On December 10, 1966 in Mountain View, CA he married the former Nadine Steele. She survives. Also surviving are three sons; David Harlan and his wife Debra of Pt. Mugu, CA, Timothy H. Harlan of Godfrey and Michael Harlan of Godfrey, two brothers; Russell Nicholson and his wife Carolyn of Alton and Bob Depper of Alton, a sister, Sharon Davis of Alton, three sisters-in-law; Myrlan Harlan of Alton, Jeanine Langevin and her husband Milton of San Jose, CA and Joy Wardleigh of Elk Grove, CA, a brother-in-law, Fr. James Steele and his wife Julia of Placerville, CA, an aunt, Colleen Depper of Godfrey and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step father, Earl Plumb, step mother, Imogene Harlan and a brother, Virgil Harlan. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Father Steve Pohlman will officiate. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with full military honors. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
