James Voege

James E. Voege, age 86, went to be with the Lord., on Saturday, February 1, 2008, at 11:17 p.m. at Alton Memorial Hospital, in Alton.

He was born on April 16, 1921 in Alton, Illinois, the son of the late Leo J. & Kathryn A. (O'Neill) Voege.

He married the late Betty H. (Helfrich) on June 24, 1944 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paris, IL.

James was employed at Bemis Brother Bag Co. in St. Louis, MO. as a mechanical engineer for 22 years, and then went to work for Canham Sheet Metal in Alton for 20 years; retiring in 1984. He was a graduate of the U of I. He was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Alton K of C council #460, where his was a third degree knight. He was the head of the engineering committee that built Summersport, and one of the original 25 charter members. He was a water fowl enthusiast and hunter, member of Lockhaven, and while working at Bemis invented & patented two bag machines

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Suzanne & Dick Peterson of Fairway, KS, and Barbara Voege of Salisbury, NH; three granddaughters, Katy Boetcher & husband Kevin of Lenexa, KS, Amy Johnson & husband Troy of Tulsa, OK, and Sarah Lindquist of Overland Park, KS; two great grandchildren Emma Boetcher, and Mary Elizabeth Boetcher both of Lenexa, KS, son-in-law, Jim McClintock of Lenexa, KS, and a sister Gloria Kennedy of Chicago, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Kathryn McClintock; and sister, Nancy Voege.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2008, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, in Alton.

A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m., at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Tuesday, February, 5, 2008, with Fr. Roger Schoenboen O.M.I. officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Godfrey.

Memorial's may by made to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and or St. Anthony's Hospice.
