Mack Young, Jr., 79, passed away at 12:57 am on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Collinsville Nursing and Rehab. 

He was born on March 8, 1942, in Benton, Missouri, the son of the late Mack and Lillian “Margie” (Doty) Young, Sr. He married the former Shelia Ann Aldrich on June 10, 1960, in Jackson, Missouri, and she survives. Other survivors include a son and daughter in law: Michael L. and Denise Young of Wood River, two daughters, and sons in law: Debra and William “Jeff” Campbell of Huber Heights, Ohio, Diane and Chlorus Cox of Wood River, his grandchildren: Crystal (Craig) Wilson, Michael (Donia) Young, Alexis Young, Alexander Young, Joshua (Chrissie) Young, Zakary Young, Alyssa (Griffin) Horne, Mara (Nathan) Cook, Brandon Cox, Mackenzie Cox, his great-grandchildren: Westin, Willa Claire, Haylee, Hunter, Donavin, Tyler, Logan, Mason, Karsen, a sister: Cindy Nance of Sikeston, Missouri, a brother and sister in law: David and Lois Young of Sikeston, Missouri, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. 

Mack was employed at Cassens and Sons Transport in Edwardsville as a car hauler for over thirty years. He was a member of the Jaycees, the Teamsters Local 604, was active with the Boy Scouts where he held many different offices. He loved to race stock cars at the Godfrey and Tri-City Speedways, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and formerly coached Pee Wee Football for seven years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Maryville. Mack enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play in various Oiler sports for over fifty years. 

In addition to his parents, Mack was preceded in death by a son: Daniel Young, and two brothers: Dennis and James. 

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 2 pm to 5 pm on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Monday, January 10, 2022, at the funeral home. Pastor Tom Hufty and Pastor Randy Butler will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Maryville or to the African Vision of Hope (AVOH) a mission through First Baptist Church in Maryville, and will be accepted at the funeral home. 

Due to the current CDC guidelines, face masks are required.
