Marjorie Marcella Meredith, 95, passed away at 10:07 a.m., Monday, March 15, 2021 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jerseyville.
She was born in Jersey County, Illinois on September 22, 1925, the eldest of six children born to the late Fred and Verna (Watson) Marshall.
She began her working career at the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville and worked for many years as a cook and waitress at various establishments in the area.
She married William Leo 'Pat' Meredith on April 2, 1949 in Jerseyville. Together, they were the proud parents of five children and shared in 57 years of marriage, prior to his death on December 19, 2006.
Marcella was an avid reader. She and Pat enjoyed hosting family and friends for countless cookouts. Later in life, she became quite thrifty and took up couponing and yard sales, keeping close track of the money she had saved each year.
Surviving are four daughters and a son, Judy Russell and Marsha Hansen, both of Jerseyville, Illinois; Pam and Jim Rankin of Kingsport, Tennessee; Diane and Tom Morgan of Bartow, Florida and Terry and Phyllis Meredith of Godfrey, Illinois; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; as well as a brother, Fred Marshall of Jerseyville.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son in-law, Bob Russell; three sisters, Sharon Frazier, Vivian Kadell and Freda Bock; and a brother, Marvin Marshall.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. ' 12:30 p.m., Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. All CDC guidelines, including the wearing of mask and social distancing measures must be followed.
Funeral services and burial will be private with interment to take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Jersey County Relay for Life or to Jerseyville American Legion Post #492 Color Guard, in care of the funeral home.
